World Series Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
