Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and watch Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like typical physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The story begins when the couple relocate from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the pair. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple confront the type of challenges that come with any relationship over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion sow anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
