Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
